Anne, Max and I were all feeling a bit sick, so we decided to take it easy today.
The weather was really nice. Warm and sunny, although a bit more shade would have been nice.
We’ve done most of this ride a number of times. We rode out on the Alameda Creek Trail to the nub up against the bay. There’s some picnic tables there, although they were occupied. We had lunch, and talked about how we wanted to finish the ride.
There’s a packed earth trail along the levee which I was pretty sure led to the base of Dumbarton Bridge. For various reasons, we’ve never taken it. Today, it turned out, was the day.
It was dry enough that the packed earth made for a nice enough surface. It was interesting to see all the materials on the levee. In one section, there are half exposed tires, which according to Anne were used as filler for raising some land, but are now working themselves free. There was also a bunch of concrete tubes, and some interesting wood pieces.
The levee path did indeed take us to the base of the bridge. We headed back, taking a short detour through a commercial park before getting all the way home.
It wasn’t the most exciting ride we’ve ever done, but I’m glad we were able to get some saddle time in.
