{"id":147,"date":"2016-01-30T21:15:28","date_gmt":"2016-01-31T05:15:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lucaseckels.com\/travelogue\/?p=147"},"modified":"2016-03-28T14:47:51","modified_gmt":"2016-03-28T21:47:51","slug":"mission-loop-with-alum-rock-seasoning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lucaseckels.com\/travelogue\/2016\/01\/30\/mission-loop-with-alum-rock-seasoning\/","title":{"rendered":"Mission Loop with Alum Rock Seasoning"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"travelogue\"\r\nactivityid=\"482297165\"prefix=\"\/\/lucaseckels.com\/travelogue\/\"\r\n><\/div>\r\n      \n<p>We have officially started prepping for the summer West Coast tour. \u00a0This ride starts our training period.<\/p>\n<p>We do the Mission Loop with some regularity when we&#8217;re not feeling super creative. \u00a0Anne did a ride at Alum Rock Park in San Jose in the Cinderella training series last year, and has wanted to go back. \u00a0We decided to do both.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As we went down the Alameda Creek Trail, we saw a guy fiddling with his kid&#8217;s bike. \u00a0The chain had slipped off the single-speed, and he was having a hard time getting it back over the rear cog. \u00a0I stopped to help, but sadly I had left my Leatherman at home, so I couldn&#8217;t help take off the rear wheel. \u00a0Fortunately, he got it, and we continued on.<\/p>\n<p>The ride down towards Alum Rock was fairly straightforward, if a bit boring. \u00a0Once we got to the park, it shifted quickly from suburb streets to a narrow, twisty road, with a small but steady upslope. \u00a0There was a bit more traffic than I would have liked, which had a hard time having enough visibility to pass us. \u00a0Everybody was sufficiently patient, however.<\/p>\n<p>Near the top, there&#8217;s a visitor center and a nice playground. \u00a0The kids ran around, and we had lunch.<\/p>\n<p>Then it was time to continue up, this time on a paved multiuse path, rather than a road. \u00a0After a bit of climbing, we had a nice, straight descent.<\/p>\n<p>On the ride back, it started to cool off, and we had to fight a bit of a headwind. \u00a0Ruth started to get antsy. \u00a0But we made it without incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have officially started prepping for the summer West Coast tour. \u00a0This ride starts our training period.
